After another 10 months of French class, I feel that I have improved and developed. My goals at the beginning of the year were, one, to improve my speaking French orally, two, improve my grammar and three, expand my vocabulary. I planned to speak more French during class time, and read a little French to get the idea of how it sounds like. Something I had already done is watch French movies and read French Magazines.
This year has been a bit different for me in terms of class time and spending it learning the same as everyone else in 1B. At the beginning I knew that I was not in the right level and I didn't learn anything new in particular. My parents and I decided that if would be best if I participated in the 1B class, but at the same time learn what the more advanced class was learning. This decision resulted well for me, but then again, I had missed over half a year of what I was supposed to be learning. Over the past few months it was a little challenging because there was more work, and new information to memorize. I could feel myself develop in my goal areas, since the one-on-one classes required me to communicate in French, read more French, and look at more advanced level of grammar. I feel comfortable in the area of learning I am now: I am able to participate in any class work, but am also at my level of French.
Most of the 1B class time this year was review. We had had 7 chapters that we went through. The only new subjects for me was more the cultural side of France, not the vocabulary or grammar. The verbs and how to conjugate was nothing new - I had learned être, avoir, regarder, along with many other verbs in 6th and 7th grade. I had done seasons, weather and clothes then, too. I had also learned class objects, directions, family, and feminine and masculine endings, colors and personal descriptions. Even though I had done subjects like these before, I feel that it was a good review - something to really make me memorize it. So all together, this year's class time was mostly a review, a good review, and a personal development, too.
To sum it up, this year was an "ok" year with a lot of changes, but I feel like in the last few months, things really worked out for me.
